About

Auliak Matias Martinez

AULIAK is a Barcelona-based fine art photographer whose work explores the body as a site of tension, perception, and transformation.

Working exclusively in black and white, AULIAK creates carefully constructed images where physical presence, spatial relationships, and visual rhythm become the foundation of the work. Rather than capturing events or documenting reality, the photographs are conceived as autonomous visual situations, distilled to their essential elements.

The body occupies a central role throughout the practice. Faces are often absent, allowing gesture, posture, and proximity to operate as a universal language beyond biography or individual identity. What emerges is not a portrait of a person, but a study of forces, relationships, and states of being.

AULIAK develops works in series rather than as isolated images. Each photograph functions as part of a larger visual structure, where meaning unfolds through repetition, variation, and sequence. Individual images remain self-contained while contributing to a broader investigation of a particular human condition.

Underlying the work is a sustained interest in composition, tension, balance, and the invisible dynamics that shape human experience. This approach is informed by more than three decades of engagement with contemporary dance, not as subject matter, but as a way of understanding space, presence, and form.

The work has been presented internationally and featured in publications and institutions including La Vanguardia, The Business Times, ART PLUS Magazine, and Disseny Hub Barcelona.

All works are produced as limited editions under carefully controlled studio conditions and released according to a rigorous framework of formats and edition sizes.

Based in Barcelona, AULIAK works within an international contemporary art context.

The studio is supported by Mónica Bellés de Villa, Studio and Editions Director, who oversees production, editions, and collector relations.
