About

Auliak Matias Martinez

AULIAK emerges from a long-term choreographic practice, where the body is not treated as an object but as a structure of thought.

Developed after more than 30 years working in contemporary dance across international stages, AULIAK translates choreographic logic into still image. The work does not document movement; it removes it in order to reveal its underlying structure.

Each image is constructed as a controlled scene, where gesture, tension, and spatial composition replace narrative. Faces are often absent, allowing the body to operate beyond identity and to function as a primary language.

Rather than isolated photographs, AULIAK is conceived in series. Images relate to one another as fragments of a larger sequence, where time is compressed and reorganized. What was once duration becomes a fixed moment, yet retains its internal rhythm.

The practice operates between choreography and image-making, where the discipline of the stage is reconfigured into a visual system. The result is not a translation of dance, but a continuation of its logic through another medium.

The work extends beyond the studio into international contexts and platforms such as La Vanguardia, The Business Times, ART PLUS Magazine and Disseny Hub Barcelona, tracing a continuous dialogue between choreography, image and contemporary visual culture.

AULIAK works are produced as limited, studio-controlled editions, developed within a strict framework of formats and quantities to ensure consistency and precision across the body of work.

Based in Barcelona, AULIAK is oriented towards an international context.

AULIAK is the photographic practice of Matías Martínez Casais, developed in collaboration with Mónica Bellés de Villa, Studio and Editions Director.
